Funding available for the creation of a Teaching Advisory Board

The Curriculum Development Special Interest Group of the National HE STEM Programme has launched a funding call for STEM departments in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to bid for £1,000 to launch their own Teaching Advisory Board (TAB). These Teaching Advisory Boards will provide an opportunity for School Teachers and HEIs to interact; providing direction to universities, raising awareness about secondary education changes and easing transition for STEM students.

To access these funds, HEI STEM departments will need to agree:

  • 1. Specific aims for their TAB in line with the overall objectives of the funding call
  • 2. As diverse a membership of the TAB as reasonably possible (e.g. representatives from FE colleges, secondary schools, independent schools, mixed sex schools, rural schools, all girls schools etc.)
  • 3. To ensure a range of exam boards are covered to incorporate different post-16 qualifications

The grant should be used to cover set-up costs (staff time etc.) and there should be a minimum of two meetings of the TAB. £500 will be paid upfront to successful applicants, £250 following the first TAB meeting, and the final £250 on completion of a report capturing the learning from, and impact of, the TAB.

Deadline for submission of an application: 7 October 2011

The application form and further details can be found on the National HE STEM Programme website.
