Wellcome Trust education project: 'In the Zone', will enable students to explore the human body ahead of London 2012

The Olympic and Paralympic Games are an opportunity to witness countless extraordinary feats of the human body. How do athletes move so fast or jump so high? And what happens inside our bodies when we take part in sport, performance or dance?

The Wellcome Trust have gained the London 2012 Inspire Mark for their 'In the Zone' project. The initiative has two main strands:

1. Resources for Schools
'In the Zone' will allow teachers and students of all ages to explore the science of how the human body works during exercise, movement, performance and rest. Schools which apply will be sent free kits of curriculum-linked materials in early 2012, containing everything they need to take part in practical investigations.

2. Interactive touring exhibition
Touring across the UK in 2012, this will be a highly interactive exhibition for the whole family, and will include activities, demonstrations and shows. Visitors will be able to test their sporting skills and performance, find out more about the human body and its physiology, and share their own results with friends and family through a range of social media.
