Ingenious grant scheme encourages creative public engagement with engineering projects

Ingenious is a grant scheme run by the Royal Academy of Engineering which offers grants of between £3,000 - £30,000 to organisations, schools or individuals who offer creative public engagement with engineering projects. The scheme aims to reward imaginative ideas that help engineers communicate their expertise and passion for engineering to a wider audience.

The Academy welcomes proposals from engineers and engineering organisations and institutions, universities, science and engineering communicators, public engagement specialists, colleges and schools.

The closing date for this next round of Ingenious grants is Friday 14 October 2011.

Projects must aim to achieve at least two of the following:

  • Provide engineers with practical experience of public engagement activities, allowing them to share their expert knowledge and reflect on the social impact of their work
  • Include creative activities that challenge public engagement practitioners and engineers to communicate in new ways
  • Present opportunities for engineers to improve their communication and engagement skills through experiential learning and/or the design and delivery of bespoke training opportunities
  • Enable members of the public to discuss engineering and its impact on our daily lives

You can read case studies about previous projects and view mini-films from grant holders and engineers on the Royal Academy of Engineering's Ingenious Case Studies webpage.
