Live Q&A: Getting a graduate job in engineering

The Guardian is hosting a live Q&A session with a panel of expert engineering employers looking at the UK engineering sector and the types of careers available to engineering students after graduation.

Engineering graduates are always in high demand, however, many engineering employers fear that the UK is losing its pool of engineering talent as many UK graduates are lured away to lucrative opportunities in the US and emerging economies such as India and China. This live Q&A will demonstrate the breadth of engineering opportunities available in the UK, and will let students know about the sort of skills employers are looking for.

The Q&A will run on the Guardian website between 1 and 4pm TODAY (15 June), and will feature the following panel of experts.

  • Claire Donovan, manager of policy for SEMTA
  • Carol Frost, Head of HR for Centrica Energy's Power Business Unit
  • Pollyanna Dawber and Rukhsana Din, UKRC
  • Jenny Young, chartered engineer
  • Professor Philip Taylor, DONG energy professor of renewable energy, Durham University
  • Catherine Teague, careers manager, EngineeringUK
  • Antonio Espingardeiro, IEEE member
  • Allison Riley, EngTech product manager, Institute of Engineering & Technology
  • Lydia Beaton, manager of the James Dyson Foundation
  • Antony Bacon, apprenticeships manager, Cable & Wireless Worldwide
  • Debby Soetan, Aston University graduate and soon-to-be process engineer at Kraft - Cadbury
