National Science and Engineering Week – 11-20 March 2011

This year’s science and engineering celebration will kick off with the theme of ‘Communication’ – thousands of events and activities in all types of venues will showcase how science and engineering relate to everyday life, from intimate cafe discussions and shopping centre science busking to city-wide science festivals.

The annual event is organised by the British Science Association (BSA), and also includes the ever-popular Big Bang Fair, which is led by Engineering UK, in partnership with BSA, the Institute of Physics, the Science Council, the Royal Academy of Engineering and Young Engineers. Big Bang 2011 will take place at ICC London ExCel from 10-12 March, and will feature a whole range of exciting exhibitors, live demonstrations, and interactive exhibits; the exhibition will also host the finals of the prestigious National Science & Engineering Competition.

Please visit the National STEM Centre eLibrary to view our collection of resources donated by those organisations associated with the Big Bang. This collection also features the Big Bang Lesson – a mind-blowing workshop delivered by Professor Brian Cox which demonstrates how fascinating science, technology, engineering and mathematics can be.

The National Science and Engineering Week (NSEW) website also features a whole host of resources to help you make the most out of the week. This includes an interactive map to search for NSEW events and activities in your region, details about the various competitions running as part of the celebration and materials to help you participate and even a range of resources to help you set up your own NSEW event.

The National STEM Centre will also be exhibiting at the Big Bang Fair, so please come along and visit us – we will be on the STEM Zone stand, based in the Education Zone in Capital Hall.
