National Science & Engineering Week - Free resources for the national celebration of science and engineering this March

The National STEM Centre is hosting a special collection of resources on the eLibrary for National Science & Engineering week (NSEW), which takes place from 9th to 18th March 2012 across the whole UK. Resources have been chosen to help the library’s users make the most of National Science & Engineering Week 'World in Motion' theme.

The organiser guides and activity packs are popular with the diverse range of National Science & Engineering Week activity and event organisers, who include schools, libraries, STEM institutions and community groups. The packs in the library are:

  • Three activity packs containing short and easy-to-organise hands on activities. The packs include ‘Food For Thought’ in Welsh and English, which contain activities which count towards Crest Star and Superstar Investigator Awards.
  • Two Guides for Organisers including ‘Science on a Shoe-string’, which gives great ideas for running inspiring science events and activities on minimum budget.

The full range of NSEW resources including guides and activity packs are available here.

National Science & Engineering Week is co-ordinated by The British Science Association. A truly grass-roots initiative, NSEW provides an opportunity for people across the UK to organise and participate in fun and hands-on science and engineering events and activities. As well as free resources there are also other fun ways people of all ages can take part including a new online video competition.

Prove it! is a brand new competition for all ages, collecting as many stories of ‘Our world in motion’ as possible. You are challenged to make 30-second videos explaining one aspect of “Our world in motion” and upload them to our Prove it Youtube page If your video is selected by our panel of celebrity science presenters you will win Sony Handycam DCR-SR58E Camcorder or a Panasonic HX-DC1 (White) Upright Full-HD Camcorders.
