NCETM launches 'Train the Trainers initiative'

The National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM) is looking for Influential Mathematics Teachers in the East Midlands/East of England who are creatively using ICT in their mathematics lessons and who are already actively passing on their skills, and feel ready to have their experiences given national attention.

Ten teachers (a mix of Primary and Secondary) from the region will be invited to attend a free 24 hour ‘focus group’ from 4pm Friday 11 February to 4pm Saturday 12 February 2011 at The Haycock Hotel, Wansford, Peterborough, PE8 6JA.

Ideas will be shared, and ten case studies prepared for publication on the NCETM portal in March.

ICT topics they would be hoping to spotlight would be:

  • classroom hardware: whiteboards, tablets
  • strategies: for laptop or lab lessons
  • internet resources: web-based apps, data and images
  • mobile technologies: iPhone, iPad
  • dynamic software: Geogebra, Autograph, Sketchpad
  • spreadsheets: Excel for simulations, statistics
  • word processing: mathematical expressions, diagrams

Food and accomodation will be covered by NCETM, although they regret that they are unable to reimburse travel costs.

If you would like to be considered for this initiative, please email events@ncetm.org.uk stating where you work and your interest in ICT and mathematics.
