NCETM Special Award for STEM - Does maths count?

As part of the Primary, Secondary and Advanced Leaders Awards, a Special Award is, for the first time, directed towards teachers.

In many cases teachers have professional contacts related to subjects they teach. For this Special Award NCETM are looking for teachers to interview professionals related to subject areas (including Maths) that use Maths as part of their working life. The aim of this Award is to highlight the importance of Mathematics in curriculum subjects such as the arts, humanities and sport, alongside the STEM subjects; offering understanding of the importance of Maths and its relevance in careers. The interview should look at professionals in any field of work that use maths as part of their daily lives. The interview does not necessarily have to relate to a subject that you teach but one that you, as a teacher may be interested in.

This is an individual award open to teachers, college lecturers, NQTs, PGCE students and undergraduates on education courses.

Three chosen interviews will be awarded cash prizes:

  • 1st place - £250
  • 2nd place - £150
  • 3rd place - £100

A further 11 Merit Awards of £50 each may be awarded at the judges' discretion.

Applications should be received by 30 April 2011. More information, including details of how to register to enter, can be found on the Awards website.
