New SchoolZone microsite explores the topic of Animal Research

Understanding Animal Research (UAR) is an education programme which partners volunteers from universities and business with secondary schools throughout the UK who visit the schools to talk about their work with animals. To support the work of the programme, UAR has now launched a SchoolZone microsite dedicated to students and teachers.

The microsite was was developed by teachers through a workshop last year which was funded by the Biomedical Research Educational Trust. SchoolZone has been designed with key stage 3 biology in mind but there is also plenty of additional content there for citizenship teachers to use, or for anyone with a general interest in the ethics of science and the role of laboratory animals.

The microsite will be updated with new teaching resources each month, to enable UAR to respond to teachers' needs regarding the creation of effective resources to use to explore otherwise neglected areas of the curriculum.

Visit the SchoolZone microsite.

The National STEM Centre eLibrary also contains a large number of downloadable teaching resources related to animal research.
