New secondary science competition: The Big Science Challenge

The Big Science Challenge is new national science competition for secondary students being run by Rolls Royce and the British Council, in collaboration with the Institute of Physics.

Aimed at secondary schools in the UK and the Middle East, the competition offers students the opportunity to put their science and engineering skills into action. Teams of up to five 11-16 year olds must design an original solution to a local, national or global problem concerning water. The winning teams will be brought together in London to meet their international counterparts and present their work. In addition, one winning UK team will visit Dubai for an exciting programme of educational and recreational activities.

The competition aims to inspire young people and develop their skills in science and engineering in an international context. As well as providing students with the opportunity to work with peers in the UK and Middle East and develop intercultural understanding and global citizenship.

The closing date for the competition is 3 February 2012.

Full details on the competition and how to enter can be found on the Big Science Challenge website.
