Nominations now open for WISE Annual Awards 2011

The WISE Awards are a unique annual event, a special opportunity to recognise inspiring organisations and individuals actively addressing the core concerns of WISE: promoting science, engineering and construction to girls and young women.

There are three award categories that can be entered:

  • The WISE Excellence Award is open to women who are working in the early stages of their SET (science, engineering, technology and construction) career. She must have demonstrated a high level of commitment to her chosen profession and to the promotion of science, engineering and construction to girls and young women.
  • The WISE Champion Award is open to schools, industry, universities, colleges, charities and professional bodies who have taken steps to actively address the WISE mission to encourage girls and young women in to STEM education and related careers.
  • The WISE Advisor Award is open to career advisors, teachers, ambassadors, mentors and educators who have motivated and enthused girls and young women to pursue STEM related subjects.

Each winner will receive an engraved plaque, and profile in the national media, while the winner of the WISE Excellence Award will also receive a cheque for £1000.

There will also be two further awards presented at the annual awards ceremony, these awards are organised by partner organisations and consist of:

  • The FORD WISE prize for students studying to become a Chartered Engineer or training to become an Incorporated Engineer.
  • The Primary, Secondary and Advanced Leaders Awards for STEM challenge female pupils (aged 5 - 19) to interview female STEM professionals (scientists, technologists, engineers and Mathematicians) about what first excited them about their subject, and how they harnessed this excitement to further their careers.

This year's award ceremony will be held on 19 October from 1.00pm - 5.00pm at The Institution of Engineering and Technology, in central London.
