Qualification support material and services: call for evidence

The nature of the relationship between textbooks and other study aids and assessments and examinations is on ongoing topical source of debate. In addition questions have been raised in the media about the role of training services and guidance provided by awarding organisations to support the delivery of their qualifications including the role of examiners running these seminars.

To inform the way Qfqual should be regulating qualification support material and services they are asking for your views on:

  • the way textbooks and other study aids available in a range of formats to students (in particular for A levels and GCSEs) are written and sold and whether you have any concerns about the style and content of study aids that need to be addressed;
  • the guidance and training services provided by awarding organisations to schools and colleges to support their qualifications and whether you think there needs to be changes in how these are delivered.

As the process of evidence gathering and analysis is an iterative process, the scope of the research programme will develop evidence is gathered. It should also be noted that the focus is currently on high stakes general qualifications.

Qfqual intend to publish an action plan to address any problems confirmed with the relationship between textbooks and examinations by September 2012.

To give your views please respond by 4pm Thursday 15 March 2012.
