Tarquin MEI Prize 2012 launched

MEI (Mathematics in Education and Industry) is working with Tarquin to offer an annual prize for post-16 school and college students.

The competition is to design a video, animation, GeoGebra file or some other electronic artefact that communicates mathematical ideas being used to solve an engineering or other practical problem of some kind. The mathematical ideas used must be from mathematics taught in A level Mathematics and/or Further Mathematics, or in equivalent qualifications.

An entry may be designed by an individual student or by a group of students.

Anyone considering entering should note that an entry to the competition might form the basis of a project for the Extended Project qualification.

Entries will need to be submitted by 30 April 2012. The winner will be announced by 31 May 2012.

A prize of books to the value of £100 will be awarded for the winning entry. Additionally, the winners’ school or college will be awarded materials to the value of £400 from Tarquin. The winners will be informed by email by 31 May 2012. The judges’ decision will be final.

If you are interested in taking part, please register your interest.
