Teaching Advanced Mathematics (TAM)

Mathematics in Education and Industry (MEI) are running a 16-month course, incorporating two summer holidays, designed to give teachers the skills and confidence to teach A level Mathematics. The 2011 / 12 course will be offered through five centre in London, the Midlands, the South West, the North East (taking place at the National STEM Centre) and the North West.

The course has been running since 2004 / 05 and requires participants to take an active role in six day-long workshops, spread across the year, focusing on A level mathematics pedagogy. In addition, they will study the content of five A level modules, from a teaching and learning perspective, with support using an on-line classroom. Participants will have the option of submitting work for a Masters level qualification. Participants will have access to an extensive website of teaching and learning materials and this access continues for two years after course completion.

During the course, teachers are asked to compile a portfolio of module assignments and personal reflections on the course study days. Those wishing to receive a Postgraduate Certificate (one third of a Masters degree) need to submit additional work in the form of essays.

You can download the flyer below, and for those wishing to register their interest in attending please visit the MEI website, where you can also find contact details for further information.

The 'Gateway Report' - also available to download below - contains feedback from participants on previous years' TAM courses.
