The Biology Challenge is an online competition for schools in the UK, open to students in Year 9/Year 10 in England and Wales, Year 10/Year 11 in Northern Ireland and S2/S3 in Scotland.

The deadline for applications for this year's competition is Monday 31st January 2011.

The Challenge aims to:

  • encourage students in their interest in Biology
  • involve as many students as possible in a challenging and interesting biology competition
  • act as a junior version of the British Biology Olympiad, thus raising its profile and encouraging participation

The Challenge consists of two levels of 30 minute papers to maximise participation and provide flexibility. Schools conduct the Challenge in various ways to best suit their students, ensuring that they enjoy participating. The 2011 Challenge may be taken between Monday 14th and Friday 25th March.

Questions are set on the school curriculum but the Challenge also rewards those students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes and taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest, and students who are generally aware of our natural flora and fauna.
