Wellcome Trust survey of primary science assessment

A recent study from the Wellcome Trust reveals overwhelming support for science assessment in primary schools, as well as a strong preference for non-SATs testing.

Nearly 1,000 school children and 245 of their parents in England and Wales took part in the survey. Most of the children found science assessment useful, valued feedback and liked to know how they were performing. However, the majority of children preferred end-of-topic tests and investigations to SATs testing.

It is hoped that the findings will be used to inform the debate about the best way to conduct assessments in science and around statutory national curriculum testing, or SATs, in other subjects.
