Win a trip to the Galapagos islands with Survival Rivals!

Survival Rivals competition offers a teacher and four students the chance to visit and undertake research in the Galapagos Islands

Deadline for entries: 21 May 2010

Survival Rivals is part of the Wellcome Trust's offering for Darwin 200. It consists of the three experiment kits I'm a Worm, Get Me Out of Here, Brine Date and The X-Bacteria, as well as the mass participation activity and workshops that form A Question of Taste.

This competition encourages students aged 11-19 to communicate the science behind the Survival Rivals kits in a creative way. To enter students need to conduct the experiments, then make films or take photographs of their results, showing how they have brought science to life.

Judges will be looking for original ideas: films and photographs that will wow, excite and inspire the audience to want to know more about evolution. As with most creative successes, the time that the team puts into the preparation and planning will be reflected in the results.

The Survival Rivals kit contains everything teachers and students need to carry out the experiments in school. All the experiments are designed to help young people see for themselves how Darwin's ideas link to modern evolutionary principles and contemporary biomedicine. Survival Rivals kits are available completely free of charge to all UK state secondary schools. In addition all schools can access free online resources or purchase kits and spare components.

Further information and full details on how to enter can be found on the Survival Rivals website.

As part of Darwin 200, the Wellcome Trust is funding three strands of public engagement activity, in the fields of education, broadcast and culture. Survival Rivals is the Wellcome Trust's Darwin 200 offering for secondary schools. The Great Plant Hunt is the equivalent for primary schools.
