Myscience.co Limited was established in 2005 by the White Rose University Consortium, which comprises the Universities of Leeds, York, Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam. Myscience operates the National Science Learning Centre as a centre of excellence for science teachers' continuing professional development and the National STEM Centre (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) which brings together key national organisations working within the STEM communities, and are co-located on the attractive campus of the University of York.

Myscience's activities have expanded to include the operation of the full network of Science Learning Centres, which are situated within each of the government’s regional areas, as well as a wide range of national and international projects in the field of STEM education.

Who we recruit

National STEM Centre

Co-located with the National Science Learning Centre is the National STEM Centre. The National STEM Centre is building the largest open collection of resources for teachers of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the UK. At the heart of the National STEM Centre is a purpose-built library, housing extensive collections of resource materials for teachers and lecturers of STEM subjects. On Thursday 8 July 2010, the Centre launched its virtual eLibrary which currently contains over 190 collections and more than 4,000 individual teaching materials and will continue to expand over the coming years.

  • National STEM Centre team
    The National STEM Centre team draws on varied expertise in STEM education to deliver the Centre's activity. This experience includes teaching, curriculum development, publishing, web editing, CPD development and delivery (across science, mathematics, and design & technology), together with professional librarians who manage the physical and online resource collections. The full team contributes to the day to day running of activity at the Centre.

National Science Learning Centre

The National Science Learning Centre (NSLC) and the regional network of Science Learning Centres provide inspirational and innovative professional development for science teachers, technicians, lecturers and teaching assistants from across the UK. All learners deserve an engaging and motivational science education. We are passionate about helping schools and colleges to achieve this and believe that it can be brought about through high quality and relevant subject-specific professional development.

In 2008 Project ENTHUSE was launched, a new £30 million partnership between the Wellcome Trust, government and science-based industries providing the ‘Enthuse’ Award, a bursary to enable science educators to attend courses at the National Science Learning Centre.

  • Professional Development Leaders
    Our Professional Development Leaders play a key role in planning, delivering and evaluating the course programme delivered at the National Science Learning Centre. They ensure all our courses and conferences are fresh, innovative and responsive to the needs of teachers, lecturers, support staff and the education service. They are responsible for overseeing the day to day running of the courses at the centre, as well as preparing professional development materials for use on the SLC’s network web portal.
  • Laboratory Technicians
    Our Laboratory Technicians support and assist the running of the practical components of the courses delivered at the National Science Learning Centre. They also identify and procure equipment for the practical areas as well as maintaining these areas in terms of resources and health and safety procedures.
  • Network Team
    Our Network team provide the day-to-day management and administration of specific science education projects and contribute to the development of new projects which are delivered through the national network of Science Learning Centres.

Operations teams

Crucial to the delivery of the National STEM Centre and the network of Science Learning Centres is an exceptional group of operational teams that work across Myscience programmes based in York.

  • Communications
    Our Communications team deliver communications and marketing activities for all the programmes run by Myscience.co Limited. Their activities encompass a broad range of marketing operations including but not limited to: direct marketing, advertising, exhibitions and conferences, events organisation, media relations, public relations, electronic marketing, database management, copywriting and partnership marketing.
  • Administration and HR
    Our administration team underpin all the activities within Myscience.co Limited. These include:
    - Administration and Events Co-ordination to support courses, events, conferences and meetings taking place within the National Science Learning Centre and National STEM Centre.
    - A Human Resources team responsible for all aspects of Myscience's human resources policies, processes and procedures.
    - PA provision for all aspects of personal assistant and administrative support to the directors of Myscience.co limited.
  • Finance
    Our Finance team provide a quality financial and accounting service for all the programmes run by Myscience.co Limited.
  • ICT
    Our ICT team maintain and develop our network and systems as well as supporting users.
  • Facilities
    Our Facilities team manage the day-to-day servicing and maintenance of facilities within the building as well as being responsible for Health and Safety.
